For most researchers, attending workshops, conferences and professional meetings is an essential component of career development. However, the prospects of travel for parents with children can present a financial and logistical challenge. The Committee on Women Faculty would like to remind the community that benefits-eligible faculty and staff—as well as all students—are able to participate in temporary and back-up childcare and childcare support benefits during travel.
In particular, parents traveling to conferences and workshops are eligible for reimbursement of childcare expenses during travel. Parents can make their own arrangements to have childcare provided either at home (so as to allow for travel) or at the conference/meeting site during travel.
Traveling parents can receive up to $100 per day reimbursement ($150 per day for international travel) for childcare expenses (up to a family maximum of $1,000 per fiscal year).
