When a student has a chronic condition with random or cyclical acute episodes, modifications to attendance policies may be appropriate as an accommodation.
However, if a course is highly participatory in nature, it may be difficult for faculty to determine if and when flexible attendance accommodations are appropriate.
At a Faculty Forum titled “Flexible Attendance Accommodations,” Eboni Porter, assistant director for Educational Services for Students’ Disability Resources, will review important policy information, including guidance from the Office of Civil Rights regarding flexible attendance and deadlines. Faculty members also will receive assistance in navigating the implementation of this type of accommodation.
There will be a Q&A session at the end of the presentation.
The presentation will take place Friday, Oct. 20, from 1 to 2 p.m. in Sears Library Building, Room 480.
