The Kelvin Smith Library and the Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities will host two hands-on faculty development workshops in August. Facilitated by Digital Learning & Scholarship’s Creative New Media Officer Jared Bendis and Baker-Nord’s Digital Humanities Manager Lee Zickel, the seminars will be: an Internet Tools Workshop (Aug. 13–14, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and a Media Production Workshop (Aug. 15–17, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
Each workshop is limited to 12 participants, so only individuals who can attend the entire length of the workshop should register.
During the two-day, introductory-level Internet Tools Workshop, participants will learn about the tools that can allow them to more efficiently manage the mass of information. This includes tips to increase efficacy in Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs and Google Reader as well as hands-on experiences with Facebook and Twitter. Participants also will discuss website creation and blogging—for both personal and classroom use.
Over the course of the three-day Media Production Workshop, attendees will go over the concepts and vocabulary of digital images, the culture of video and video production, and the fundamentals of non-linear and interactive media theory. This will include hands-on workshops in photo editing, video editing and interactive media creation.
