Explore the history and indigenous roots of restorative justice in Classroom Without Walls course

SASS 500 Restorative Practices: Ethos and Embodiment. A new course for Fall 2025 explores the history and indigenous roots of restorative justice as an alternative to the Criminal Legal System. The course builds on theory to explore restorative practice arenas, such as community violence, trauma informed practice, victim advocacy, Family Group Conferencing, and school-based restorative practices to counter the school-to-prison pipeline. The course also focuses on developing skills and using the circle process as integral to the learning. As a Classroom Without Walls, community learners will join students in the course. Open to graduate and doctoral students, faculty and staff. Taught by Prof. Mark Chupp
