Explore opportunities, challenges of shale gas at March 22 discussion

Xiangwu (David) Zeng, chair of the Department of Civil Engineering, director of the Center for Shale Energy Research and Education and a leading expert on earthquakes, will lead this week’s Public Affairs Discussion group talk, titled “Shale Gas: Opportunities and Challenges.”

The talk will take place Friday, March 22, in Kelvin Smith Library’s Dampeer Room from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Zeng will inform the group on the growth of natural gas production from hydraulic fracking of shale, discuss the political conflicts that exist and share concerns related to the environmental effects it may have.

Since 1989, faculty, emeriti, students and staff have gathered on Fridays for a brown-bag lunch and to discuss topics in public affairs.
