Ethics Table opens up to campus community this spring with discussions, events and more

Beginning in the 2013 spring semester, the Ethics Table at Case Western Reserve University will offer new ways for students, faculty and staff to get involved.

The Ethics Table is the main initiative of the Beamer-Schneider Professorship in Ethics, whose mission is to develop ethical reflection in conjunction with the Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence, the Department of Bioethics, UCITE, SAGES and others.

Beginning Jan. 30, the Ethics Table will host weekly brown-bag lunches to encourage discussion on relevant ethical issues. Lunches will be held on Wednesdays, Jan. 30 to April 17, from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. in Thwing Center’s Spartan Room. Each event will be BYO (bring your own) food, with coffee and dessert provided.

Interested individuals are encouraged to submit ideas for a lunch topic by emailing bendik-keymer@case.edu. Weekly topics will be announced in The Daily. To be put on a contact list for these lunches, email bendik-keymer@case.edu

In addition, members of the 2011-12 Ethics Table plan to periodically organize events, such as potluck dinners, to discuss ethical issues. They also have a listserv in which they sometimes debate ethical issues of current relevance. To be updated on the dinners and other activities, as well as to participate in online discussions of ethics, email ethicstable@case.edu or consider joining the listserv “ethicstable.”

Finally, in late spring, the Ethics Table will offer opportunities to engage in ethics-focused research in the next academic year. For more information, contact bendik-keymer@case.edu or visit case.edu/artsci/phil/ethicstable.html.
