English’s Marilyn Sanders Mobley pens tribute to author Toni Morrison

Marilyn Sanders Mobley, professor of English, wrote a piece honoring the life of author Toni Morrison.

Her piece, titled “A tribute to Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison,” appeared on the Diverse Education website.

In it, Mobley wrote how Morrison “has helped us confront the difficult truths about our racial past and the ways in which efforts to avoid those truths have hindered justice and equality.”

Mobley recalled her early experiences teaching about Morrison’s work and why she has continued to incorporate it into her lessons.

She also explained her involvement with the Toni Morrison Society and the opportunities it afforded her to engage with Morrison on a different level.
