Erika Olbricht, senior instructor in the Department of English, was appointed interim director of the Seminar Approach to General Education and Scholarship program (SAGES). She is filling the position previously held by Peter Whiting, who is now serving as interim vice president of student affairs following the retirement of Lou Stark. Olbricht began the interim role on July 1.
Olbricht comes to the role naturally as she’s already SAGES instructional coordinator, director of Writing Across the Curriculum and teaches SAGES courses on landscape, ecology, landscape history and conservation. She holds a PhD from University of New Hampshire and a master’s degree from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London.
“SAGES is in good hands with Erika,” said Whiting. “She knows SAGES well from teaching and university seminars, preparing faculty to lead seminars, guiding writing instructors and participating in our leadership team. We’re grateful that she is taking on this role.”
In turn, Olbricht looks forward to continuing the work of SAGES at the university.
“I’m happy to take on this role and hope to continue the excellent leadership Peter has provided since the inception of SAGES,” Olbricht said. “Even though the university is transitioning to new General Education Requirements, we are committed to providing engaging seminars and meaningful learning experiences for our returning students still completing their SAGES requirements.”
