Shakespeare has played a significant role in American literary and political culture since the time of the Revolution.
Drawing upon his recent anthology for the Library of America—Shakespeare in America—James Shapiro, the Larry Miller Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University, will consider the alternative history of our nation conveyed in the work of representative American authors. He will explore how Shakespeare has served as a means to confront some of the issues that have long divided the nation.
The event, sponsored by the Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities, will take place Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 4:30 p.m. in Clark Hall, Room 309.
The event is free and open to the public. Registration is recommended.
