English department’s Michael W. Clune writes about moral education

Michael W. Clune, the Samuel B. and Virginia C. Knight Professor of Humanities in the Department of English, wrote an opinion piece titled “Are Humanities Professors Moral Experts?” that was published by The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Clune explored how humanities professors are split between two visions of the work: as aesthetic educators, and as moral educators. He argued that these rationales are incompatible, make the case for aesthetic education, and invite others to make the case for moral education.
