Why Cleveland needs to recycle better

Cleveland Magazine: João Maia, associate professor of macromolecular science and engineering, discussed new research led by Case Western Reserve with government and industrial partners to “upcycle” up to 80% of the plastic now sent to recycling centers (which recycle about 10%). Upcycling is reusing recycled material in meaningful ways, not just for items like trash bags, filler or padding, as is often the case with recycled plastics.
