Clayton Cooper (CWR ’20; GRS ’20, mechanical engineering), a fourth-year mechanical engineering PhD student at Case Western Reserve University, earned special recognition during the North American Manufacturing Research Conference (NAMRC) in June.
Cooper received the 2023 Student Research Presentation Award for his presentation titled “Surface Roughness Prediction Through GAN-Synthesized Power Signal as a Process Signature.”
The presentation was made possible by support from the National Science Foundation, via the Graduate Research Fellowship Program and the HAMMER Engineering Research Center, as well as support from the CWRU School of Graduate Studies via the Graduate Student Travel Award.
The award encourages talented young students to pursue a career in manufacturing research to accomplish the long-term goals of the manufacturing community. This year, nine students who co-authored a NAMRC paper were selected to present their work to a panel composed of the North American Manufacturing Research Institution (NAMRI) board and Society of Manufacturing Engineers Honors Committee.
