Engineering doctoral candidates receive American Society for Testing and Materials International scholarships

Two Case Western Reserve University students won $10,000 scholarships from the American Society for Testing and Materials International (ASTM) for their graduate studies. Janet Gbur and Mohsen Seifi, both PhD candidates in materials science and engineering, were two of three students selected for the honor.

ASTM International develops and publishes voluntary consensus standards for developing organizations around the world.

The highly competitive scholarship rewards master’s and doctoral students who have shown high levels of interest in or involvement with ASTM standards.

ASTM has 5,000 student members and it offers several scholarship and grant opportunities each year.

Seifi previously won the scholarship in 2014. He has participated on ASTM Committees E08 on Fatigue and Fracture and F42 on Additive Manufacturing since 2013.

Gbur received the Committee E08 M.R. Mitchell Best Student Presentation Award in 2014. She has participated on ASTM Committees E08 on Fatigue and Fracture and E28 on Mechanical Testing since 2011.
