The Ellipsis Institute will host a conference at Case Western Reserve University April 12-13.
The event’s theme of “Seize the Narrative” is inspired by Damita Frazier of the Combahee River Collective, 40 years after its founding and in the wake of #BlackLivesMatter. Frazier implores women of color to take back their voice and occupy their legacy in the collective quest for liberation.
An opening reception and performance will be held today (April 12) at 5 p.m. in Thwing Center atrium.
The conference portion of the event will be held in the Thwing Center ballroom Friday, April 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with registration at 8:30 a.m.
The event schedule will be:
- 9 a.m.: Radical welcome
- 10 a.m.: Keynote address with Regine Roy
- Noon: Luncheon plenary with Marilyn Mobley, vice president for inclusion, diversity and equal opportunity
- 2 p.m.: Breakout sessions (“Queer as Liberation: Perspectives for WOC/QPOC” with Erin Phelps and Brianna Hawkins, “Queen Geniuses” with Regine Roy, or “Unleash Your Inner Goddess: The Powerful, Divine Feminine Within” with Empress Adeniyi)
- 3 p.m.: Closing
In plenaries and breakout sessions, students, staff and faculty who are women of color will build relationships across lines of difference and receive tools and resources to successfully produce advocacy actions on campus.
The Flora Stone Mather Center for Women, Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity, and Office of Multicultural Affairs will sponsor the event.
