Eli Reshotko, Kent H. Smith Professor Emeritus of Engineering, was selected as the 2011 William R. Sears Memorial Lecturer at the University of Arizona. He gave the lecture Oct. 27 in Tucson.
The William R. Sears Memorial Lecture Series celebrates the work and life of the late Bill Sears, a renowned aeronautical engineer. Reshotko and Sears had many interactions over the years, beginning in 1950-51 at Cornell University, when Reshotko was a graduate student in mechanical engineering.
During the lecture, Reshotko talked about his memories of Sears, and then also discussed applications of the independence principle and the role of transient growth in the laminar-turbulent transition process.
