With both Intersections and the Celebration of Student Writing and Research fast approaching, it is a good time to brush up on how to present research and class projects effectively to passersby, as well as to judges.
The Writing Center will host three sessions of “The Elevator Pitch Workshop: Presenting Your Research to Strangers”—Friday, Nov. 17; Monday, Nov. 20; and Wednesday, Nov. 29. All of the sessions will be from 12:45 to 2 p.m. in the Wickenden Building, Room 321.
The workshops, led by lecturers Bill Doll and Barbara Burgess-Van Aken, will provide tips on the following:
- Explaining a complex research project in a cogent and succinct one-minute pitch;
- Developing strategies for answering questions about research;
- Capturing the attention of passersby in large, open settings;
- Being inclusive of late arrivals to the presentation; and
- Sharing speaking roles when the elevator pitch involves teams of students.
