“The Economic Cost of Collateral Sanctions: Economic Development, Criminal Justice and Race in Greater Cleveland”

The Social Justice Institute will host an evening of conversation concerning the hidden costs and long-term economic implications of incarceration.

Tim Black, co-director of the Social Justice Institute, will moderate the discussion, titled “The Economic Cost of Collateral Sanctions: Economic Development, Criminal Justice and Race in Greater Cleveland.” The event will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. at the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Community Studies.

Peter Truog, director of civic innovation and insight at The Fund for Our Economic Future, will present research focused on the issues, and a panel will respond and extend the discussion.

The panel will be composed of:

  • Erika Anthony, vice president of government relations and strategy at Cleveland Neighborhood Progress;
  • Bishara Addison, senior manager of policy and strategic initiatives at Towards Employment;
  • Crystal Bryant, director of the Cuyahoga County Office of Reentry; and
  • Damian Calvert, project coordinator/outreach for the Community Relations Board for the city of Cleveland.
