Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences’ Steven Hauck discusses the impact of new imaging techniques on a recent planetary discovery

The planet Mercury is shrinking
UPI: New images captured by NASA’s MESSENGER show that Mercury has contracted by more than 4.3 miles during its 4 billion years of existence. “With MESSENGER, we have now obtained images of the entire planet at high resolution and, crucially, at different angles to the sun that show features Mariner 10 could not in the 1970s,” said Steven Hauck, associate professor of earth, environmental and planetary sciences.
