Early identification of high risk factors can delay onset of glaucoma, says Medicine’s Douglas Rhee

Surgical options to treat patients with increased eye pressure and glaucoma continue to expand

The Plain Dealer: Douglas Rhee, chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, discussed the need to identify glaucoma early and also new minimally invasive surgery trials that will take place at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. “If we can identify high risk factors—higher eye pressure; typical appearance of optic nerve; thinner cornea; African-American race—and if we treat you, it does delay the onset of disease,” he said.
