Diversity might seem like nothing more than a buzzword being tossed around corporate America, but it’s a critical component of effective management.
That’s the message DiversityInc Media LLC CEO and founder Luke Visconti will share Monday, Oct. 3, when he appears as the guest speaker in the Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity’s 2011-12 Power of Diversity Lecture Series at Case Western Reserve University. The free, public program, “Innovation and Diversity: What Does Success Look Like?” will take place in the Wolstein Research Building at 4:30 p.m.
Visconti is dedicated to raising awareness about the benefits of diversifying the workplace. He pens the column “Ask the White Guy,” which reaches more than 1 million readers each month. He also speaks publicly on the topic, including appearances on MSNBC, CNBC, FOX and NPR.
Since its founding in 1998, DiversityInc has made one of its hallmark projects “The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity.” The program is in its 12th year of ranking companies on their innovative practices to increase diversity in the workplace. Participation has grown to 535 companies, all of which pledge to strengthen their company’s commitment to diversity through CEO leadership, workforce engagement, corporate and organizational communications, and attention to vendor diversity.
DiversityInc and Visconti have been recognized with the “2009 HerMano Award” from MANA, a national Latina organization; “Bridge Builders Award” from the Wall Street Project conference; “Legacy of Leadership” award from Spelman College; and Distinguished Alumni Award from Rutgers University, where Visconti received his undergraduate degree in biology.
