The Dittrick Medical History Center and Museum will mark the reopening and formal dedication of the newly refurbished M. Donald Blaufox Hall of Diagnostic Instruments with a lecture by Joel D. Howell titled “Machines and Medicine: Tools, Technology, and the Transformation of Patient Care.”
In his talk, Howell, the Victor Vaughan Professor of History of Medicine at the University of Michigan, will explore the impact of technology upon diagnosis and the dynamics of the physician-patient relationship.
Chief curator Jim Edmonson and donor Donald Blaufox will provide opening remarks, followed by the lecture.
The lecture will be held Thursday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. in in the Allen Memorial Medical Library Building’s Ford Auditorium and will be followed by a reception in the museum’s galleries.
