Information Technology Services (ITS) recognizes that many members of the Case Western Reserve University community use the Apple iPhone, iPad or iPod as their primary mobile device. The latest mobile operating system from Apple, iOS 7, now is available to iPhone, iPad, iPad mini and iPod Touch fifth-generation users.
This latest update to iOS presents users with a more modern interface, as well as new or improved functionality. The changes accompanying the new operating system will alter the way that users experience these mobile devices and reach key device settings, such as those for setting up email and wireless connections. Here are some of the notable changes:
Control Center: An upward swipe from any screen now provides access to crucial settings, such as airplane mode, Wi-Fi, bluetooth and do not disturb. Users also may use this function to turn on their device’s flashlight, solve a quick calculation or take a photo. Download a PDF to discover how to connect your device to the CaseWireless network, which is a connection that easily can be toggled off or on from the Control Center.
Notification Center: The redesigned Notification Center informs users about new mail, missed calls, upcoming calendar events and a daily summary that includes the weather forecast and the day’s schedule. Learn how to configure an iPhone or iPad to synchronize with your CWRU Google Apps Mail, Contacts and Calendar, which will enable you to take full advantage of Notification Center.
Improved Multitasking: iOS 7 tracks when you are most likely to use your apps and updates their content before you launch them. Pressing the home button twice now reveals preview screens of open apps, and apps are updated during power-efficient times, such as when your device is on and connected to the CaseWireless network.
Camera and Photos: Camera in iOS 7 makes all shooting formats, such as still, video, panorama and square, easily accessible. New filters are available to facilitate photo editing, and the photo library can group your photos and videos based on time and place.
Learn more about other new features in iOS 7, such as the file-sharing tool, AirDrop, iTunes Radio and the new capabilities of Siri, the personal assistant of iOS. For the most accurate information on how to access these settings and troubleshoot problems, users are encouraged to seek assistance on the Apple website at www.apple.com.
