Discover how anthropology can be used to address real-world problems at April 18 lecture

Dawn Nafus 2016This year’s Anthropology Spotlight Lecture Series, “Applying Anthropology to Real World Problems,” will be held Monday, April 18, from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. in Mather Memorial, Room 201.

Dawn Nafus, senior research scientist at Intel, will present “Getting Out of the Clouds: Context and Data within the Quantified Self Community.”

In her talk, she will address how health and wellness data is used within the quantified self community.

She has published widely on experiences of time, gender and technology, ethnography in industry, and most recently, quantification.

Nafus co-leads the Data Sense project, which developed data-exploration tools for non-expert use.

Refreshments will be provided at the event.

The lecture is made possible by through the support of Jonathan Plimpton, managing director at International Business Management Inc. and a 1970 graduate of Western Reserve College, with a degree in anthropology.
