When a student has a chronic condition with random or cyclical acute episodes, modifications to attendance policies may be appropriate as an accommodation.
However, if a course is highly participatory in nature it may be difficult for faculty to determine if and when flexible attendance accommodations are appropriate in their course.
Eboni Porter, assistant director for Educational Services for Students Disability Resources, will lead a faculty information session titled “Disability Accommodations: Flexible Attendance” Thursday, March 23, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in Sears Building, Room 341A.
Porter will review important policy information, including guidance from the Office of Civil Rights regarding flexible attendance. She also will assist faculty members in navigating the implementation of this type of accommodation.
There will be a Q&A session at the completion of the presentation.
