With the end of the academic year nearing, students all across campus will engage in a variety of traditions to mark the occasion. As a follow-up to our December Did You Know section highlighting winter traditions, we will share some some spring traditions of past and present.
Students at Adelbert College and the Flora Stone Mather College for Women celebrated Step Night or Step Day to honor classes of students as they aged.
While Adelbert College juniors recognized sophomores in their version of the event toward the beginning of the school year, Mather College seniors honored juniors at the end of the year.
In the Mather College students’ version of the tradition, seniors carried candles and presented them to the juniors at the steps of Clark Hall. During the event, which followed the junior-senior banquet, both classes engaged in song.
