The year-end holidays are a time for celebration and giving back to loved ones and those in need. During the month of December, we will highlight ways in which the Case Western Reserve University community works to help others both during the holidays and throughout the year.
The Staff Advisory Council (SAC) Community Service Committee aims to promote and better the relationship between the CWRU staff and the greater Cleveland area by offering opportunities for charity and fundraising.
One of the SAC Community Service Committee’s initiatives is the annual Basket Raffle. Through this initiative, baskets donated by CWRU departments and offices are raffled off during the annual Benefits Fair. All proceeds from the raffle are donated to charities. Recent past charities have included the Rainbow Connection Animal Foundation (2018), The Littlest Heroes and C.E. King Middle School in Houston (2017), and HandsOn Northeast Ohio and the Shelli Snyder Medical Recovery Trust (2016).
The 19th annual Basket Raffle was held November 6-7. During this fundraiser, the Community Service Committee raised $5,000 for the West Side Catholic Center.
To date, the committee has raised $92,550 for charities through the raffle.
Other SAC Community Service initiatives include the Back to School Supply Drive, which provides school supplies for schools in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. This year marked the drive’s ninth year and was held from mid-July to Mid-August. The committee also supports Crafters@Case, which makes and donates scarves, socks and more to drive its mission of helping individuals who are homeless and in need in Northeast Ohio and showing them someone cares.
