Pride Month is celebrated across the country each June in recognition of the 1969 Stonewall Riots, a series of uprisings in response to police raids on LGBTQ spaces in New York City. These events are considered to be a catalyst for the modern LGBTQ movement. To mark the celebration, we will highlight various aspects of Case Western Reserve University’s LGBT Center throughout the month of June.
The LGBT Center aggregates a list of resources available at Case Western Reserve University and in the Cleveland community on its website.
Among the resources are:
- Information on campus policy related to domestic partner benefits, gender-inclusive housing, the non-discrimination policy statement and more;
- A Transgender Resource Guide (PDF) to help individuals navigate various systems and resources at CWRU;
- Instructions on how to update preferred name, gender identity and personal pronouns;
- An inventory of all-gender bathrooms across campus, listing the location of each; and
- Details about where to find career, educational and health resources.
Additionally, the center offers two awards to financially support students who are making a difference in the community. The Douglas W. Nock Endowment Scholarship is for those who have made an impact on the LGBT community at CWRU or in their community as a high school student. The CWRU Pride LGBT Ohio Leadership Award recognizes those whose actions advance the LGBT community, whether on a university level, in Cleveland or nationally.
