Did you know: LGBT Center programming

Pride Month is celebrated across the country each June in recognition of the 1969 Stonewall Riots, a series of uprisings in response to police raids on LGBTQ spaces in New York City. These events are considered to be a catalyst for the modern LGBTQ movement. To mark the celebration, we will highlight various aspects of Case Western Reserve University’s LGBT Center throughout the month of June.

In addition to conversation groups, the LGBT Center has several other signature programs that support the LGBT community at Case Western Reserve.

Safe Zone

Throughout the year, the center offers Safe Zone sessions to all members of the campus community. Safe Zone Friend provides information on LGBTQ+ identity terms and ways to give support, while Safe Zone Advocate sessions dig deeper, covering unconscious bias and microaggressions.

The next Safe Zone Advocate session will be Wednesday, July 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Sears Building, Room 315.

The LGBT Center also offers Safe Zone training sessions for groups and departments. Learn more about how to request a group session.

Lavender Graduation

Each year, the LGBT Center, in partnership with the Pride Alumni Network and the CWRU Alumni Association, hosts the Lavender Graduation to recognize “the experiences and contributions of graduating LGBTQ+ students.”

The celebration features an address by a student speaker and university leadership, the bestowing off certificates and cords to graduates, and presentation of awards.

Other programming

The LGBT Center also offers timely programming on several other topics, including the Clothesline Project for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Trans Day of Remembrance and the Gender Resistance Walk-In Closet.
