This month, we welcome the Class of 2023 to Case Western Reserve University. To help welcome our newest students to campus, each week in August, we’ll highlight a fact about Discover Week (formerly known as orientation).
While the Class of 2023 may have just begun classes yesterday, new students already had the chance to explore their new city. Two Discover Week events take first-year students on adventures throughout Cleveland: Discover Cleveland and CCEL Service Day.
The one-day excursions offered through the Discover Cleveland program took groups of students to neighborhoods all across the city. Some areas students explored included: AsiaTown, Edgewater Beach, The Flats, Lakeview Cemetery, Playhouse Square, Tremont and more. The trips also gave students the chance to try out the Greater Cleveland RTA. Take a look at photos of the activities throughout the day.
Students could participate in one of 23 programs or information sessions offered as part of the Center for Civic Engagement and Learning Service Day. The volunteer experiences included opportunities assembling activity kits for children with life-threatening illnesses, walking and playing games with seniors at Judson Manor, working on trails at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, sorting groceries at the Cleveland Food Bank and teaching children with Junior Achievement. See photos of the new students in service.
As the students continue their careers at Case Western Reserve, they’ll have even more opportunities to check out all Cleveland has to offer.
