UCITE session: “Designing a High-Impact Study Abroad Program that Gets Results”

Research has shown that studying abroad can profoundly influence a student’s overall college experience. Living and learning in a new environment gives students the opportunity not only to become immersed in a different culture but also to bond with a peer cohort and unearth latent academic interests. As a high-impact college experience, studying abroad may help contribute to higher retention, higher GPAs and increased personal growth and development. Achieving such benefits, though, requires careful planning and strategic implementation of study abroad programs at the curricular level.

The University Center for Innovation in Teaching and Education (UCITE) will host Angela Miller, director of education abroad, to discuss study abroad at its next session.

Miller will present “Designing a High-Impact Study Abroad Program that Gets Results.”

She will provide an overview of study abroad program development and discuss ways to craft a strong program that addresses all learners’ needs. She also will facilitate a discussion on best practices for developing, assessing and improving student learning outcomes. This session will support faculty in developing effective and enriching study abroad experiences that motivate students to live and learn beyond the Case Western Reserve University campus.

The UCITE session will take place Thursday, April 11, from 11:40 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Allen Memorial Medical Library, Herrick Room.
