Department of Dance presents “Mastering Gravity” concert March 22-25

Case Western Reserve University Department of Dance will present Mastering Gravity, a concert of new dance works by Master of Fine Arts candidates Kristy Clement and Rachel Stoneking, at Mather Dance Center March 22-24 at 8 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m. on March 25. The concert will feature solo, duet and group works by Clement and Stoneking and choreography from dance faculty member Andre Megerdichian.

Clement’s solo, The Tragic Romance of Music and Dance, incorporates piano music composed and performed by Alex Cooke, while her septet, Creatures of Habit, is set to a sound score she designed. Pseudovector, a duet performed by Clement and Carissa Bellando, is choreographed by Megerdichian and features the music “Unaccompanied Suite in D Minor” by J.S. Bach.

Stoneking’s duet, The Way of Man, is set to music by Arvo Pärt; her solo, Beloved, is set to excerpts from biblical text and a song by Misty Edwards. Stoneking speaks the text while she dances her choreography. Metamorphosis, a sextet choreographed by Stoneking, is set to a score by the same name composed by Gernot Wolfgang.
