The Department of Classics will present its annual Vergil Week celebration during the last full week of the semester, April 18-24.
Events during the celebration will include a footrace; a Latin recitation contest; an art contest; a senior thesis defense in Classical Philology; an all-day reading of Vergil’s epic, Aeneid, in English; a scholarly symposium; and a keynote address by noted Vergil scholar Randall Ganiban, professor of classics at Middlebury College.
This year’s event will feature a new digital component. On Thursday, April 23, interested readers will be able to access and read the Aeneid online via the new Loeb Digital Library—whether the readers are on campus or around the world via a digital connection. The entire reading will be digitally archived.
