Members of the Case Western Reserve University community are invited to join the Department of Anthropology for the 2024 Kassen Lecture featuring Elizabeth Carpenter-Song (GRS ’04, ’07, anthropology), a research associate professor at Dartmouth College, Thursday, Jan. 25, at 4 p.m. in the Tinkham Veale University Center Senior Classroom.
A medical and psychological anthropologist, Carpenter-Song explores mental illness and health in the United States and the culture of American psychiatric practice. During this lecture, she will discuss her new book, Families on the Edge: Experiences of Homelessness and Care in Rural New England, an ethnographic account of the day-to-day lives of families struggling to overcome housing insecurity, mental illness and lack of social protections.
The Kassen Lecture is made possible by the generous support of the estate of the late Dr. Julian and Aileen Kassen.
