Dental medicine’s Rui Amaral Mendes pens piece on the importance of genome surveillance in tracking COVID-19 sub-variants

Rui Amaral Mendes, adjunct professor of oral and maxillofacial medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine, wrote a letter to the editor of the British Medical Journal in which he addressed the need for optimized genome surveillance of Omicron in order to track the new COVID-19 sub-variant, BA.2.

Mendes’ letter draws from an article he co-authored, “We need to optimise genome surveillance and tracing of SARS-CoV-2 variants,” that was published by the British Medical Journal on March 11.
