Dental medicine’s Rui Amaral Mendes contributes to piece providing guidance on head and neck cancer concerns in India

Head and neck cancer screening programs in India have been temporarily halted or are continuing at a very slow pace. As a result, concerns have been raised about the care individuals with suspicious lesions receive.

Rui Amaral Mendes, adjunct professor at the School of Dental Medicine, was a corresponding author on a piece encouraging such individuals to consult with the general practitioners. The authors, whose piece titled “Decreased Cancer Consultations in the COVID-19 Era: A Concern for Delay in Early Cancer Diagnosis in India” appeared in the Journal of Clinical Oncology – Global Oncology, also called for support and guidance for policymakers for designing and delivering public awareness programs.
