The Center for Civic Engagement and Learning (CCEL) Student Executive Council invites students to be part of a live, virtual CWRUinCLE Challenge event Saturday, Oct. 3, at 5 p.m. The event will feature a free online film and discussion.
The Cleveland International Film Festival is teaming up with the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards, which “recognize books that have made important contributions to our understanding of racism and our appreciation of the rich diversity of human cultures,” to steam a free series of documentaries from the recent film fest that have “an Anisfield-Wolfian flavor.”
Students are invited to stream the film We Are the Radical Monarchs Oct. 3 and then join CCEL’s Student Executive Council from 5 to 6 p.m. that day for a Zoom discussion about their thoughts on the film. The film profiles a scout troop of young girls of color in Oakland, California, who earn badges by learning about and engaging in a variety of social justice causes.
Students taking on CCEL’s virtual CWRUinCLE Challenge this semester can count participating in this event toward the “Art” or “Education” challenge categories. Students who complete one event in each category by the end of the semester will earn a digital badge and a chance to win Cleveland-themed prizes.
