CWRU instant messaging service, im.case.edu, to be removed Dec. 31; Google Talk to take over

The Case Western Reserve University instant messaging service, im.case.edu, will be permanently removed from service Dec. 31, making Google Talk the university’s preferred instant messaging service. Users who use Spark or another instant messaging client will no longer be able to log in to the im.case.edu server at that time.

Effective immediately, all members of the CWRU community have access to Google Talk through the Chat gadget in webmail, iGoogle and Google+. Optionally, users of Windows computers can download the Google Talk client, and users of Apple computers can use iChat to connect.

Google Talk’s features include chat rooms, video chat and voice calling. The Google Talk client and the video and voice plug-in are available at google.com/talk/.
