CWRU Entrepreneurship Speaker Series: “Local journalism in Cleveland” with Lee Chilcote and Tammy Wise, founder/publisher of The Land

Join the Veale Institute for Entrepreneurship for a Case Western Reserve University Entrepreneurship Speaker Series roundtable discussion with Lee Chilcote and Tammy Wise, Founder/Publisher, “The Land,” Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. via Zoom.

They will discuss local journalism in Cleveland and launching The Land, a news startup that reports on Cleveland’s inner-ring suburbs.

Chilcote is a journalist, poet, nonfiction writer and singer-songwriter. In 2015, he founded Literary Cleveland, an organization whose mission is to “advance and nurture a vibrant literary arts community in Northeast Ohio,” and led it from an idea into the startup stage as its executive director. Prior to that, he held several roles at FreshWater Cleveland, a weekly online magazine that reports on the people, places and projects driving Cleveland’s transformation. Chilcote’s articles and essays have appeared in many publications, such as Vanity Fair, Next City, Crain’s Cleveland Business, Cleveland Scene and more.

Wise is an entrepreneur, business developer and marketer. Prior to joining The Land, Wise was a publisher for FreshWater Cleveland. She owned Wise Group, a custom publishing company that she built into a broad communication firm, until 2010 when she sold the company to Smart Business Network. Today, in addition to being a publisher for The Land, she is president of WISECHAPTER3, a marketing consultation firm.

Shreyas Banerjee, who is pursuing bachelor’s degrees in biology and philosophy, will facilitate the conversation. He is the arts and entertainment editor for The Observer, CWRU’s student newspaper, where he was previously a staff reporter.
