CWRU community members star in Cleveland Public Theatre production

An upcoming Cleveland Public Theatre production stars 2 CWRU community members. Nicole Coury is an alum and current MSASS student, and Samantha Cocco is the administrator for the Social Justice Institute. In ‘Bedroom Culture,’ showing at Cleveland Public Theatre March 10-12, Nicole plays 2012 Mia, and Samantha plays 2022 Mia – two versions of the same woman, one a rising high school senior, and the other in her late 20’s.

Synopsis: The summer before freshman year of college, Lavender is determined to have her First Experience with a boy. Her best friend Mia finds her feelings for Lavender run deeper than friendship. Caught in a queer love triangle, Bedroom Culture is a sun-drenched coming-of-age story about the power of pop culture, fantasy, and first love.

Bedroom Culture is part of Cleveland Public Theatre’s Test Flight, a multi-week series showcasing new work on its way to full production, presented as virtual staged readings this season. It is written and directed by Hannah Rae Leach, an emerging local playwright and was previously a part of another of CPT’s new works series, Entry Point, in January 2019, in which Samantha and Nicole also starred, but it was only a snippet of the full production. A virtual version of the piece, also incomplete, streamed in spring 2021. This is the world premiere of the full piece.
