CWRU Baroque Music and Dance ensembles to preview upcoming performance

The award-winning CWRU Baroque Music and Dance ensembles, led by Director Julie Andrijeski, will travel to Berkeley, Calif., this June to participate in Early Music America’s Young Performers Festival at the Berkeley Early Music Festival and Exhibition.

Catch a preview of the students’ Early Music Festival performance on Tuesday, June 3, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Harkness Chapel.

As one of six college ensembles selected by audition, the CWRU groups will perform a program of music by Elisabeth Claude Jacquet de La Guerre, one of the most famous women composers and harpsichordists of the baroque era, and a protégé of King Louis XIV.

A pastiche of music and dance from Jacquet de La Guerre’s only opera, Cephale et Procris, is the centerpiece for the show starring Sian Ricketts, soprano and assistant director, with Elena Mullins and Corey Shotwell. The concert is Thursday, June 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Church in Berkeley, Calif.

Case Western Reserve University students involved in the performance include Daniel Batchelder, Cynthia Black, Luke Conklin, Hannah DePriest, Allison Monroe, Mullins, Ricketts, John Romey and Karin Weston.

Cleveland Institute of Music students involved include Chen Chen, Dominic Favia, Arturo Fernandez, Shotwell and Qin Ying Tan.
