Create your own Mardi Gras-themed mask, hear from CWRU students at Cleveland Museum of Art’s MIX event

Three students from Case Western Reserve University and Cuyahoga Community College will share presentations inspired by works from the Cleveland Museum of Art’s collections during the Mardi Gras-themed MIX event Friday, Feb. 5, from 5 to 9 p.m. Come support students as they speak about the masks we wear in our lives. Tours will begin at 6:15 and 7:45 p.m.

This month’s MIX: Mask event also will feature a hands-on, mask-themed Art Cart. Attendees can create their own Mardi Gras-style masks and check out the special exhibitions “Silent Poetry: Masterworks of Chinese Painting” and “Imagining the Garden.”

For this event, CMA has partnered with Voices from the Village, a yearlong program that originated at Cuyahoga Community College to explore various themes related to the human experience, and with the Cleveland Humanities Collaborative (CHC). The CHC is a partnership between Case Western Reserve University and Cuyahoga Community College that provides a pathway for high-performing Tri-C students to complete their associate’s degree and transfer to CWRU to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in one or more of CWRU’s humanities programs. More information about the CHC can be found at chc.case.edu.

Advance MIX tickets are $8; the price increases to $10 on the day of the event. CMA members may attend for free. Tickets can be purchased online at cmaweb10.clevelandart.org/cgi-bin/Tickets.py.
