Liat Johnson, a doctoral student at the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, is one of only four doctoral students chosen nationally to receive a fellowship through the Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
The purpose of the program “is to reduce health disparities and improve healthcare outcomes of racially and ethnically diverse populations by increasing the number of culturally competent behavioral health professionals with doctoral degrees available to underserved populations in the public and private nonprofit sectors.”
Johnson came to the Mandel School’s doctoral program with extensive expertise as a mental health clinician and manager, which has led her to focus her research on understanding how social workers recognize ethical issues and make ethical decisions.
As a fellowship recipient, Johnson will receive professional development training, mentorship and other support, and has been invited to attend CSWE’s annual program meeting in California in November.
