Convocation volunteers needed

To make commencement events as memorable as possible for our students who are graduating, volunteers are needed for the are needed for the class photo, Clap Out and the Spartan Send-off. Please fill out the volunteer form if you are interested in volunteering for one or more of these events.

Held Wednesday, May 15, the convocation event schedule is outlined below.

Class Photo

1:45 to 2:45 p.m.

Seniors will gather at DiSanto Field to create the traditional “CWRU” picture. They’ll receive a free T-shirt and markers to sign each other’s shirts. Then, they’ll walk as a class to the Veale Convocation, Recreation and Athletic Center for the ceremony as faculty and staff members clap them out.

Clap Out

2:45 to 3:15 p.m.

Faculty and staff will line up the Binary Walkway and main quad area to clap out the seniors and graduate students as they walk to the Veale Convocation, Recreation and Athletic Center. Offices/departments are encouraged to show off their CWRU spirit when cheering on our grads. Some props will be provided but please feel free to bring your own signs and cheering devices.

Convocation

3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

At Veale Convocation, Recreation and Athletic Center, all students, faculty and staff are invited to hear from Vinton Cerf, vice president and chief internet evangelist for Google, followed by a speech from Undergraduate Student Government President Basil Yaseen. There will also be performances by CWRU student groups and a video montage featuring photos submitted by Class of 2024 students.

Spartan Send-off

4:30 p.m.

After the ceremony, students, faculty and staff can gather at Freiberger Field for food trucks, drinks, desserts, lawn games, a DJ and other activities. Staff and faculty can register at the event to receive a free voucher for a food truck, dessert and drinks.
