Construction begins next week to reinstall veteran’s memorial on campus

Work will begin Monday, Oct. 20, to reinstall a veteran’s memorial flagpole behind Amasa Stone Chapel, at the edge of the Binary Walkway.

All pedestrian walkways will be kept open during the construction, but large equipment will be on the premises. A flagger will be on site to direct traffic and help keep pedestrians safe when equipment is being moved. Construction is expected to be completed Oct. 31.

According to university archives, the memorial flagpole arrived on campus in 1962. Its original home was near the Olin Building on the Case Institute of Technology campus. Its inscription read: “In Memory of the Men of Case Who Gave Their Lives in the Nation’s Wars.”

The flagpole later was moved to the lawn between Amasa Stone Chapel and the former Baker building, but was removed for the installation of the Binary Walkway.
