Sexual assault on college campuses is a major hot-button topic in America. While the issue presents difficult policy questions, it also implicates the Constitution in several interesting and intersecting ways.
To address this topic, the annual Constitution Day forum will feature a discussion titled “Sexual Misconduct on College Campuses: Justice and Due Process,” Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in School of Law’s Moot Courtroom.
The Constitution Day 2015 Student Committee will host a discussion with Cynthia Bowman, the Dorothea S. Clarke Professor of Law at Cornell University, and Howard Kallem, director of Title IX compliance at Duke University. They will address the effects of pertinent laws on both public and private university proceedings. More broadly, they will discuss how to strike the proper balance between justice for victims and due process for the accused.
The forum will begin with the speakers’ position statements, followed by questions from three student panelists and the audience.
The Constitution Day program is student-led and organized. Erin Howe, chair of the student committee, will serve as master of ceremonies, and Nicholas Poe, secretary of the student committee, will moderate.
