Christian Science MonitorDeepak Sarma, professor at the College of Arts and Sciences, said they’re surprised by the intensity of recent legislation to outlaw transgender healthcare in conservative states. “I am scared in a way that I haven’t been before,” Sarma said. “Since I’m genderfluid, people can’t always figure out what my gender is. And in certain places in Cleveland, I feel OK about that. But in other places, I put a hoodie on, and I try to look like I’m, like, more masculine.”
