Church of the Covenant to celebrate Black History Month with speaker series

To celebrate Black History Month, the Church of the Covenant will host three guest preachers to give sermons and “adult forum” discussions.

Marilyn Sanders Mobley, vice president for the Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity and professor of English, will present the first sermon and discussion on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 10 a.m. Her sermon is titled “The Beloved Community.” Her adult forum topic is “Living our Faith in a Cynical World” and will begin at 11:30 a.m.

Joy Bostic, professor of religious studies, will present her sermon, titled “Call for the Mourning Women,” and forum forum, titled “Mystical Activism: African American Female Spirituality and Social Transformation,” on Sunday, Feb. 9, beginning at 10 a.m.

Barbara Essex, executive director of United Protestant Campus Ministries, will present her sermon “Confessions of a Hard Core Black Power Girl” and her forum “The Real Housewives of the Bible” on Sunday, Feb. 16, beginning at 10 a.m.
