The Case Western Reserve University 2011 Charity Choice Campaign officially kicks off Sept. 16, in tandem with Case for Community Day, the campuswide day of service.
Charity Choice allows each person at CWRU the opportunity to help members of the community—at the university and in Greater Cleveland—who need assistance.
Individuals can designate to the nonprofit of their choice—which means charitable organizations including churches, synagogues or mosques—or choose to contribute to one or more of the following agencies:
- United Way of Greater Cleveland, the leading convener and funder of partnerships focused on solutions for the community’s health and human service priorities. United Way makes a difference in the lives of 450,000 people throughout Greater Cleveland.
- Greater Cleveland Community Shares, which addresses the root causes of social problems facing our neighborhoods, our community and our region. Member organizations provide education, promote health care, protect children and women, advance home ownership, provide job training and employment, build neighborhoods and work to end discrimination.
- Earth Share Ohio (ESO), a federation working to raise donations for local, regional and national nonprofit conservation and environmental organizations. ESO beneficiary organizations provide vital services in the areas of environmental education, pollution prevention, recreation and trails, and natural resources conservation.
Your donations can make a difference throughout the year. For example:
- $5 a week ($260 per year) provides a hot nutritious meal to a homebound senior once per week or provides childcare for one toddler per month.
- $2 a week ($104 per year) provides an hour of individual youth counseling or speech therapy for an adult stroke victim.
- $10 per week ($520 per year) provides a preparation class for eight immigrants and refugees for the U.S. Citizenship Interview or childcare for one preschool child for two months.
Because of the needs in the community, campaign co-chairs Cyrus Taylor, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and David Fleshler, associate provost for International Affairs, hope to top last year’s donations of $221,179, as well as have more people participate in the campaign.
“When our fellow citizens are having such a difficult time, we welcome and thank you for your support for Charity Choice,” they said in a joint statement.
Donations can be made through Dec. 16 via a one-time payment or through payroll deductions throughout the year.
