In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women, the Middle Eastern Cultural Association and the Muslim Student Association will sponsor an interactive lecture with Rula Quawas, professor of American literature at the University of Jordan, where she founded the Women’s Studies Center.
While dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Quawas’ feminist theory class uploaded a video to YouTube about sexual harassment on campus. When the university demanded the video be removed, she refused to ask her students to do so and, as a result, lost her deanship. CNN, Al Jazeera, and many other news organizations around the world have covered her story.
The event will be held on Friday, March 27, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in Kelvin Smith Library, Room LL06B/C.
