Carl W. Ubbelohde Lecture: “1918 and the End of Empires”

The Department of History will host Robert Gerwarth, professor of modern history and director of the Centre for War Studies at the University College of Dublin, for the annual Carl W. Ubbelohde Lecture.

Gerwarth will present “1918 and the End of Empires” Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. in Tinkham Veale University Center, Ballroom A.

Gerwarth is a leading historian and author of the recently published and acclaimed book, The Vanquished: Why the First World War Failed to End, 1917-1923.

The Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities and the Laura and Alvin Siegal Lifelong Learning Program will co-sponsor the event, which is free and open to the public.

The Ubbelohde Lecture is an endowed lecture series sponsored by History Associates in memory of Carl Ubbelohde, an admired professor and former chair of the Case Western Reserve University Department of History.
